Day 1 - 6/30/2005 - On the road again!
Months of planning, days of research, and here we are on the road again. Like last year, we did not get out on the road until late - 1pm. Last minute adjustments, errands, and modifications ate up the morning. I was still trying to figure the best way to get our gear into, onto, and under the car. Our flat tire on Mt. Mitchell last week convinced me to bring TWO spare tires. I do not like having to limp down the road on a "space saver", especially in the back country of Nevada (Boundry Peak on this trip).
I did some homework and found that the beltway around DC was having major construction, so we detoured up Highway 17, through Warrenton, and join ed up with the Penn Turnpike. The drive was uneventful with lots of snacks and coffee (OK, we started the carbo-loading early!)
Since we got a late start and needed to make up time, we grabbed a Hotel in Cambridge, Ohio. This is our first trip to Ohio, so this is the 49th state I have been to, and it was #47 for Hunter. Tomorrow its on to The OH highpoint, then the IN highpoint, and then on to Illinois.
