Brasstown bald is a nice diversion on a hot summer day. It is consistantly cooler than the surrounding hills, and boasts a record high of 84 degrees (which I question). The view is quite good when the humidity is low, but there is a steady haze over the area as with the Smokies. The drive to the top is on a very steep grade, and there is an area to park trailers at the entrance. There is a small fee charged for parking ($3.00 I think I recall). It is a short but steep hike to the top (or a bus ride if you are so inclined - pun intended). There is a very nice observation deck and visitor center at the summit. The geodetic is actually located on the deck (under the stairs).
