Day 4 - 12/30/2004 - Morning in the Bayou...

The morning was absolutely gorgeous!  We awoke to a blood-red sky over Lake D'Arbonne.  I quickly got dressed and grabbed my camera, but unfortunately most of the red had vanished from the morning sky.  The pictures below captured just a touch of the color we had seen just minutes before.  I guess that will give us a reason to go back.

We broke camp and headed for our next highpoint - Driskill Mountain.  Driskill is situated in gently rolling hills in northern Louisiana.  You can see info on this highpoint by clicking here.

After Driskill Mountain was conquered, it was time to head south for a day of relaxation.  We started the long drive toward the Florida panhandle and a day at the beach.  It was a long, slow drive through the flatlands and swamps of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.  During the drive we were still trying to coordinate a campsite with Florida State parks.  We rolled into Mobile, AL about suppertime - just in time to get lost and lose an hour.  Note to all - trust your maps and GPS - NOT THE LOCAL ROADSIGNS!  After getting back on the road, we picked up some travel guides and were able to find a relatively inexpensive hotel in Ft. Walton Beach.  This would be our base of operations for the next two days.
