Day 48 - 9/1/2004 - Panorama Point and driving to the moon in 1976

Well, we were able to get showers and a nice bed and update the web pages before we hit the road.  Today's goal - north up to Panorama Point, the highpoint of Nebraska.

The drive went very quick and smooth, in spite of the dirt roads we had to follow through the National Grasslands.  (Click here for info and pictures for Panorama Point)

After Panorama Point, we went west to Cheyenne to see if we could catch a quick movie.  Apparently Cheyenne is one of those towns where the movies are only shown at night (i.e. after 7 pm).  With that, we pumped up on coffee to start the first part of the long drive back to Virginia.

As we drove back in to Nebraska, we saw a bright orange light on the eastern horizon.  For a few minutes we thought it was the next town, but then it started to grow into a semicircle and we realized it was the moon.  About the same time, we happened upon a series of radio stations that featured an eclectic mix of album-oriented rock from the 1970s.  Boston, Blue Oyster Cult, Steely Dan - it was like going back tom graduation week.  Between the music, the Red Bull, and the bright white light of the moon, it was easy to pass the miles and make good time.  Finally as all of the above were running out, it was time to stop for a short sleep.  We stopped in York, NE.
