Day 17 - Saturday 7/16/2005 - On to Zion NP...
It was nice getting a hotel and a swim, but now it is off for a few days in 105+ degree temps and no showers - ZION. I believe the name is related to the settlers in this region who were devout Mormons. We reached the main gate about noon, and after some shuffling between the shuttle and our car, we were settled into our camp by 2pm. We decided to bike to the far end of the park - about 10 mile round trip. We packed up our water and headed out.
While the afternoon was blazing hot, we had ample water and shade, and numerous places to collect fresh water. We snapped some great pics, and after talking to the rangers, we decided we will hike the Narrows on Sunday. This is hike up the canyon IN the water (i.e. on trail). It involves swimming through some sections that are high due to high water levels!
After the bike ride, we caught the tram to the lodge for a quick bite and a nature presentation. An uneventful event, which is appreciated considering the activities we have planned for tomorrow. Early to bed, but guess what...its still 95 degrees. I eventually fall asleep about 3am when it starts to cool off and the puddle I'm sleeping in starts to dry up. Hunter, of course, is snoring before his head hits the pillow.
