Day 17 - 8/1/2004 - The Rolling Plains...
No rain, but high humidity left us drying our tents this morning. We packed up and were on the road by 9:30 after sleeping in a little. We grabbed some donuts, and were pleased to see that the speed limit on I-94 is 75 MPH. A little coffee, some cruise control, and we were in Bismarck a little after noon. The countryside from Fargo to Bismarck was similar to the terrain we had seen at the border. After getting some lunch and catching a movie (Harold and Kumar go to White Castle - not bad!), we set out for Dickinson ND and points west. After Bismarck, virtually all of the trees disappear and are replaced by grassland. We were both wowed by the expanse of the land and how long it takes to drive to the horizon - even at 80 MPH. Hunter asked about the electrical cables (AC plugs) hanging out of the front of cards. I explained that it was to keep the engine block from freezing in the winter when the temperature drops well below zero. I don't think he was able to comprehend the concept of weather that cold. A bit later we reached Dickinson, and decided to get some dinner since it was 6pm - oops another timezone set back one more hour. Time to update the site...
