Day 13 - 7/28/2004 - On to WI and MN
Finally - a day that was just straightforward and simple. We had a good night's sleep, and got on the road about 9 am. Timm's Hill, the highest point in WI is fairly easy to find and reach. It is a short hike to the top, and the view that is OK - thanks to the tall tower.
After a few pics, it was through southern MN, and towards Iowa. We knew we would not reach Hawkeye Point IA before dark, but figured we would get some miles in. By 7pm, we started looking for a place to bed down, and saw that there was FREE camping in Blue Earth MN. We found out it was at the fairgrounds, and oh by the way the fair was in town. That could have been interesting...I have never camped in the middle of a rodeo before. We moved on and found a spot just to the west. Blue Earth has some sort of a relation to the Green Giant - unsure of why. Hunter spent a lot of time giggling about the "missing parts" on the giant.
The terrain of the area can only be described as LONG. When you see a landmark it is miles away. The people here are very friendly though, and the skies have been clear...until the thunderstorm. Other than that we have been well. On to Hawkeye Point in the morning.
