Day 33 - Monday 8/1/2005 -  Seafood and Big Sur...

A new day, and almost a new back.  Although the past week as sounded more like entries from "Journal of a Plague Year", my back has been the major catalyst of what we can and cannot do.  Hopefully the future entries will be much more positive.

Today's plans involve Monterey, CA, and then down the coast.  We pack up the car, catch a hot dog and soda for breakfast and head south.  (Note for Mom - Outside of breakfast, Hunter is eating well and getting his vegetables).  While the back is still a little sore, it is very manageable.  We reach Monterey just after noon, and start our walk at Fisherman's Wharf.  Hunter is hungry again, and must have octopus.  We grab more food, shop, and walk over to Cannery Row.  More shopping and food (fudge this time) and just generally play tourist.  Shops with pictures, shops with candy (lots of those) and even a shop that specializes in Garlic!  Back to Fisherman's Wharf, and now it's time for fresh salmon smoked in pepper and garlic.  This is a food that makes your eyes roll back when you taste it.  (see Mom, I told you Hunter was eating well!)

By late afternoon it was time to head down the coast and find a spot for the night.  We'll try camping this evening and see how I am in the morning.  We get the last spot in Fernwood campground and set up for the night.  This place is gorgeous.  Huge trees on the banks of the Big Sur River.   Hunter found a large, yellow, mucus-covered lump of something that is either a slug or something that fell out of an "ox nose".  It has antennae, but you decide.
