Day 44 - 8/28/2004 - Team Raz - 24, Guadalupe Peak - 0

We woke at 6 am and began packing stuff for the hike.  Rather than regurgitate the exploits and aspects of the hike, I will point you to the page that has the info (click here for the Guadalupe pictures and log).  Suffice it to say that we kicked her a**.  (Note on the gender aspect of the peaks - Hunter and I agreed that all peaks are female.  It's a long story)

After the climb, we broke camp at noon and headed up the road to Carlsbad Caverns.  We were still feeling fairly fresh, so we opted for the mile-long hike down 800 ft into the cave.  Getting pictures was tough given the limited capabilities of the camera.  This was a case where a tripod would have made a huge difference.  The hike hade changed quite a bit from when I did it in 1979.  Many of the areas that were on the self-guided tour then are now on special guided tours.  I believe it boils down to available park funds.

After the hike we rode up on the elevator and cruised up to Carlsbad (the city) for dinner and a motel.  We found a great (read: cheap) place with a lounge that had a $3.00 sirloin steak.  It was a darn good steak for $3.00!!  We also got to see the Va Tech game and to catch up on documenting the logs.
