Day 2 - 12/28/2004 - Rockets, and the first highpoint of the trip...

A cold but clear morning after we start the second day.  A quick breakfast and on to the first highpoint of the trip.  We leave Chattanooga, heading southwest through the corner of Georgia and into Alabama.  After a short drive, we rolled into Huntsville, AL, and saw a Saturn V rocket towering in the distance.  Space junkie that I am, we had to stop.

The Space Center is a great museum!  It's a little pricey, but where else can you see this kind of stuff.  The pictures below probably do more justice to the exhibits than any exhibit I can provide.  As you can see, we had the benefit of a beautiful blue sky.

We spent the morning at the museum, getting out about 11:30 am CST.  From there we just cruised west and on to Mississippi.  The highpoint (Woodall Mountain) was easy to reach, and we were able to drive all the way to the top.  For more info on Woodall Mountain, click here.

The rest of the afternoon was a long drive, trying to reach the next highpoint in Arkansas.  We decided to drive into the evening and make Little Rock.  Given the lack of campgrounds and the darkness that sets in early, we crashed at another motel to ensure an early start.
